I have been applying to many jobs as a new graduate and as a recently certified nurse practitioner and honestly, it has definitely been a job in itself. I remember going through nursing school and graduating as an RN with jobs ready to higher me during my last semester! I was immediately hired in the ICU with little to no effort. Now looking for an employer that is ok with a new graduate has become a job as a newly licensed nurse practitioner. I have applied for them all. Even though the job requires one year of experience or more I still apply for the position because I have been a nurse for over 5 years and I am confident in my ability to transition to the Nurse Practitioner role.

Great Application

I have applied to over 100 positions and roles as a new graduate. I have done many over-the-phone and a few in-person interviews. As you apply it is vital to keep your faith up and not give up. Make sure that your application is up to date well written. Check for spelling and grammatical errors as you apply to these jobs. Apply to local medical offices as well as the large hospital systems. Put in your skills and clinical experience as well as your nursing career experience.

Know your pay range

Once the offers start rolling in know how far you would like to travel, what pay rate you are wanting, benefits packet, Malpractice insurance, continuing education, tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment, pensions, and anything you can think of. know the average rate of a nurse practitioner in your area. if you are in a large city like Chicago, NYC, etc your pay rate will be higher than average. Anywhere from 130K or higher is a good starting rate due to your cost of living. If you live in a rural area of the country I have seen rates as low as 60K and that is straight up wrong. However, I urge all new nurse practitioners to seek pay of 100K or higher. After you pay taxes, insurance, and childcare you may be left with 70-80K annually. let us not forget to pay back student loans and all other debts.

Keep going after your goals

The job search can be challenging at times however it is vital to know your goals and keep going after them. Do not get discouraged the right job will come forward.
